Around the Sphere

Expanding on the original artwork, this project created a cinematic fly-through to showcase the architectural relationship between the exhibit and the sphere.

As the name suggests, the route mirrors a visitor's journey. It begins with the magic carpet ascending through the upper architectural opening, a detail often missed from the ground view. The path then loops around the external sphere before re entering from below, concluding with tight internal manoeuvres that return the viewer to the starting position,

Shots Design

The original design was a mix of carpet mounted cameras and fixed location cameras. The fixed locations demonstrated the architecture well while the carpet mounted ones were meant to create excitement.

However, we cancelled the carpet mounted shots after several attempts because they felt too much like a video game.

Motion design

To make the movement feel more authentic and less like a game, we decided to base the majority of the motion on real world physics.

Due to the limited space inside the sphere, I took inspiration from fighter jet movements at airshows to navigate the tight turns.

Colour grading

To show the relationship between the exhibition space and the environment, many shots were high on contrast. This created a challenge in post production.

Due to the time limit, we chose a logarithmic output from Blender. This allowed us to use traditional colouring techniques to balance the lighting instead of rendering everything separately.
